ESR-3043: MiraTEC Performs to the Highest Industry Standard
MiraTEC trim is the first and only wood composite trim to earn an evaluation report (ESR) from ICC Evaluation Service (ICC-ES). ICC-ES is the United States’ leading evaluation service for innovative building materials, components and systems. To view the MiraTEC Evaluation Report (ESR-3043), visit the ICC website at: http://www.icc-es.org/reports/pdf_files/ICC-ES/ESR-3043.pdf
What does this mean?
- MiraTEC trim performs to a standard that hardboard products can’t – MiraTEC is not hardboard trim.
- MiraTEC meets the strict requirements of ICC-ES Acceptance Criteria (AC424). Competitive trim products cannot meet those requirements.
- This new evidence supports the claim that MiraTEC is a worry-free product with incredible durability and a strong 50-year warranty.
Evaluation Process
After a multi-year evaluation process by ICC-ES, with participation from a variety of code officials and even MiraTEC competitors, MiraTEC trim earned ESR-3043. MiraTEC earned ESR-3043 based on rigorous testing of the 12 key measurements below (measured in % change):
24 Hour Thickness Swell
Measures the amount of thickness swell a sample produces in a 24 hour soak test.
Accelerated Aging, Thickness Swell
Measures the thickness swell of the sample after six cycles of soaking, steaming, freezing, drying steaming and drying (2 1/2 week test).
Accelerated Aging, strength retained
Measures the MOR difference, start vs. end, after six cycles of accelerated aging cycles defined above.
Weatherability of Substrate
Measures the thickness of the sample after several cycles of temperature extremes and liquid water exposure (several day test).
24 Hour Water Absorption
Measures the amount of water a sample absorbs in a 24 hour soak test.
Nail-Head Pull Through
Measures the amount of force required to pull a 6 penny nail through the thickness of a sample.
Lateral Nail Resistance
Measures the amount of force required to pull an 8 penny nail laterally through 3/8″ from the edge of the sample.
Modulus of Rupture (MOR)
MOR is an indicator of flexural strength of wood composite products.
Hardness
Measures the hardness of the face of the sample. It reports the amount of force required to embed a 0.444 in steel ball into the sample to a depth of half the ball’s diameter (0.222 in).
Impact
Measures the impact resistance of the face of the sample (smooth side only). An object is allowed to fall at different heights before damage, or denting, is noted.
Decay Resistance
Measures the resistance to rot and termite decay.
Moisture Content
Represents moisture content within a sample as a % of oven dry wood weight of the sample.
MiraTEC is Building Code Listed
Contractors, builders, architects and others use evaluation reports, like MiraTEC’s ESR-3043 to help select products under
the International Building Code (IBC), the International Residential Code (IRC) and a host of other building codes. MiraTEC is building code compliant in the U.S. (ESR-3043 from the ICC-ES), FL Building Code 22271 and in Canada (14015-L from the CCMC).
About ICC Evaluation Service
ICC-Evaluation Service is the United States’ leader in evaluating building products for compliance with the International Building Code. A nonprofit, public-benefit corporation, ICC-ES does technical evaluations of building products, components, methods, and materials. The evaluation process culminates with the issuance of reports on code compliance, which are made available free of charge to code officials, contractors, specifiers, architects, engineers, and anyone else with an interest in the building industry and construction. ICC-ES evaluation reports provide evidence that products and systems meet code requirements.
